Duplex Slitter Rewinder

Duplex slitters wind material on two mandrels one located over the other. These were designed primarily for winding various kinds of film or plastic. In most cases film cannot be slit and wound on a singe shaft or mandrel. There are two reasons. First the film will interleave with the cuts next to each other and the rolls will not come apart. Second most film has thickness or “gauge” variations across the web. After slitting the slit rolls will build differently, one harder and one softer. A duplex winder accounts for this using unique tension control systems; either core/spacer or internal friction. These systems allow the cores and film to slip creating separate tension control for each slit roll.

These machines will also slit and wind the widest variety of other flexible webs such as paper, non-wovens, foil, laminations and others. The slitting methods may be either shear slitting or razor slitting. Occasionally we modify a machine to slit in the score method.

Finally, these machines offer two rewind types. In the first case the rewind mandrels are lifted out when taking off slit rolls. The other method cantilevers the rewind mandrels, allowing operator to slide off finished rolls, often onto a special doffing station.
